What is a Mikey’s Way Day?

A Mikey’s Way Day is when we distribute the electronics we have purchased.  It is an exciting and fun day for all involved.  It is a  time when we get to meet with each child and talk about Mikey and how these gifts can actually help them get through the long hours of treatment that lie ahead of them.

At each hospital, we circle the pediatric oncology floor with our cart and offer the children their choice of several engaging, interactive and internet-ready electronics. The child picks the gift they feel will best help him or her. Each gift on our “Connection Cart” is purchased for its age suitability and its ability to help a child find the connection and diversion they need to get through the long hours of treatment. In a word, we try to help the child escape.

Some of our more popular items on the cart are Laptop computers (with Skype capabilities), Apple iTouch (with Facetime) and Wifi ready Tablets.

To date, we have held more than 100 Mikey’s Way Days. Each event involves an average of 30 children and costs $5,000 to $7,000 depending on the age and number of children we see that day.
